Panoramica
Guinea (ISO code: GN) lies in West Africa, bordering Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau, with an Atlantic coastline. It is a presidential republic in political transition. The climate is tropical, with a humid coast, inland savannah and pronounced rainy and dry seasons. Guinea holds vast mineral wealth, above all bauxite, iron ore and gold, while agriculture and services play supporting roles. Exports are dominated by raw materials, whereas fuel, food and industrial goods are largely imported. The Port of Conakry anchors the country's transit and logistics role, complemented by the dedicated bauxite port at Kamsar and the new iron-ore port at Morebaya serving the Simandou project. The currency is the Guinean Franc (GNF).
