The European Union has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on certain pea protein originating from China. The rates range from 40.5 to 67.1 percent depending on the manufacturer and generally apply for five years. Provisional measures have been in effect since April 29, 2026. Pea protein is used in food products, animal feed, pet food, and aquaculture feed. For importers, therefore, not only the food industry is affected. Feed traders, producers, and contract manufacturers must also review their product classifications. Anti-dumping duties are additional import levies. They are designed to compensate for price distortions caused by allegedly underpriced goods. The specific rate depends on the Chinese manufacturer or exporter. A company-specific preferential rate may be tied to a required declaration on the commercial invoice. If it is missing or incorrect, the higher general rate may apply. Critical factors are the product description, composition, tariff number, and country of origin. A product containing pea protein is not automatically subject to the duty. Similarly, an alternative shipping route does not protect against the tariff if the origin remains China.
