About This Seaport
Refinery jetties, a power-and-desalination complex and no public cargo berths define Umm An Nar, an industrial island some 20 km from central Abu Dhabi. Home to the UAE's first refinery when it opened in 1976, the site was later mothballed by ADNOC and taken over in 2023 by Blue Ocean Energy for a relocation project. The quays here serve industrial users - the refinery plus a 1,550 MW power and 428,000 t/day desalination plant - rather than open merchant trade. No commercial container or general-cargo handling is confirmed; vessels are attended through agencies such as Wilhelmsen. Hinterland access runs by road into Abu Dhabi's industrial and urban areas.
