About This Seaport
Three offshore single-point moorings (CALM buoys), two onshore oil terminals, a gas terminal, a sulphur jetty and a bulk-fertiliser berth define Jabal Dhanna/Ruwais (AE JED), about 220 km west of Abu Dhabi. Operated by ADNOC Onshore, the port is built for energy exports: Murban crude loads onto tankers at the SPMs, while the landside terminals serve the adjacent Ruwais refinery and petrochemical complex. A small cargo harbour exists, but scheduled container or liner traffic is not confirmed here. Operations run around the clock, with roughly 1,100 vessel calls a year, overwhelmingly tankers and industrial tonnage. Hinterland activity centres on one of the region's largest refining and chemical clusters rather than on general distribution. As a recent development, ADNOC Gas is building a large LNG export terminal at Ruwais, with around 9.6 million tonnes a year of capacity and first cargoes expected around 2028. Forwarders moving containers, breakbulk or project cargo should use Khalifa Port (Abu Dhabi) or Jebel Ali (Dubai); Jabal Dhanna remains an oil, gas and chemicals terminal.
