About This Seaport
Coal from Vietnam's largest mining district drives Cam Pha, the country's principal coal-export port, in Quang Ninh province on the Gulf of Tonkin. Operated by Cam Pha Port & Logistics, a subsidiary of the state miner Vinacomin, it handles upward of 21 million tonnes a year across roughly 4,300 vessel calls. Dedicated coal terminals with conveyor systems, open and covered storage and direct rail and road links to the mines define the facility; the main coal berth runs about 299 m and takes ships up to around 165 m. Because the fairway is only a little over 6 m deep, larger bulk carriers complete loading by transshipment at anchorage. Cement from one of Vietnam's biggest works also moves through the port. There is no container service here — for boxes, shippers use nearby Hai Phong.
