Five berths along two finger piers and a shore wharf give Da Nang's Tien Sa terminal roughly 965 m of quay, enough to handle container ships up to about 2,000 TEU alongside general-cargo and cruise vessels in 10–17 m of approach-channel depth. In 2024 the terminal moved some 762,000 TEU and around 10.6 million tonnes of containerised cargo, making it the principal seaport for central Vietnam. Operated by Da Nang Port JSC, it handles containers, bulk, breakbulk and project cargo rather than a single trade. Its commercial weight comes from the East-West Economic Corridor: via National Highway 9 and border crossings the port reaches inland markets in Laos, north-east Thailand and Myanmar, backed by road and rail links to Vietnam's north–south spine. Customs clearance runs through Vietnam Customs under standard import and export procedures for containers, reefer and breakbulk. For forwarders, Da Nang is the fastest ocean access for the Hue–Da Nang–Quang Nam industrial belt. The deep-water Lien Chieu port now under construction – designed for ships up to 18,000 TEU and about 5.7 million TEU of capacity – will sharply expand that role. Shippers with larger volumes still weigh Da Nang against Hai Phong in the north and the Cai Mep–Cat Lai cluster in the south, which offer more direct services to Europe and North America.
