Liquefied petroleum gas, not boxes, defines Al Hamriyah (AE HAM), Sharjah's LPG export terminal on the Arabian Gulf, with chilled storage for about 400,000 barrels of propane and 300,000 barrels of butane. The facility sits within the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) system and is fed by a roughly two-kilometre pipeline from the Sajaa gas-processing complex inland. A dedicated loading jetty ships the gas by tanker mainly to markets in Asia and the Middle East; the first LPG cargo left Hamriyah back on 26 April 1986. There are no container terminals, reefer sheds or liner box services here, contrary to earlier descriptions. Hinterland access runs over the northern emirates' road network, with Etihad Rail connectivity still developing. For containerised freight, Jebel Ali (Dubai) and Khalifa Port (Abu Dhabi) are the reliable gateways, while the adjacent Hamriyah Port handles general and bulk cargo.
