Das Britische Territorium im Indischen Ozean (ISO-Code: IO) liegt rund 1’800 km südlich von Indien und umfasst den Archipel der Chagos-Inseln. Politisch ist es seit 2025 teilweise an Mauritius abgegeben (ausgenommen Diego Garcia), wobei Diego Garcia weiterhin ein britisches Überseegebiet ohne permanente Zivilbevölkerung unter direkter Verwaltung durch die britische Regierung bleibt. Das Klima ist tropisch-maritim mit hohen Temperaturen, hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit und saisonalen Regenfällen.
