Road, not runway, carries the freight around Jijiga: the Somali Region's capital trades mainly overland with the Somaliland port of Berbera and with Addis Ababa. Wilwal International Airport (JIJ), named after a local hero and perched near 1,800 m, is served by Ethiopian Airlines on domestic flights to Addis Ababa. It has no commercial cargo facility, so air shipments are consolidated through the Bole (ADD) hub. Passenger traffic and cross-border movement, rather than airfreight, define the field. Forwarders treat JIJ as a regional gateway backed by a busy land corridor.
