PTY Airport (Tocumen International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

107,412 tonnes of freight moved through Tocumen International Airport (PTY/MPTO) between January and May 2026, ten percent more than a year earlier, confirming the Panama City site as Central America's leading air cargo location. DHL Aero Expreso and Uniworld Air Cargo base freighter operations here, and Copa Airlines adds substantial belly capacity through its Hub of the Americas network covering 76 cities in 31 countries across North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. With more than 20 million passengers in 2025, Tocumen is also the region's busiest passenger airport, which keeps transfer times short for shipments moving between the Americas. Typical commodities include pharmaceuticals, electronics, spare parts, cut flowers and other perishables that depend on tight connections and an unbroken cold chain. The Colón Free Trade Zone on the Caribbean coast, a little over 80 kilometres away, is Latin America's largest trans-shipment point for merchandise and links air services to ocean freight through the Panama Canal, making sea-air and air-sea routings common practice. Panama applies a distinct customs regime to its free zones, so clearance, proofs of origin and permits for dangerous goods or medicines should be settled with the handling agent in advance. When capacity is tight, Bogotá (BOG), San José (SJO) and Miami (MIA) are the usual fallbacks.
