Fighter jets on one side of the fence, a brand-new public-housing town on the other: Tengah Air Base (IATA: TGA, ICAO: WSAT) in western Singapore is a Republic of Singapore Air Force station with no civilian or cargo operations. The base is being expanded to absorb squadrons from Paya Lebar Air Base, which is slated for relocation. For freight, western Singapore's story is maritime: the nearby Tuas mega-port is being built into the world's largest fully automated container terminal. Air cargo continues to route through Changi (SIN) on the island's eastern tip.
