Deep in the Balochistan desert near Washuk, Shamsi is a remote airstrip best known as the base from which US drone operations were flown until Pakistan ordered the Americans out at the end of 2011. The strip had earlier been leased to UAE dignitaries for falconry expeditions. There is no civilian scheduled or cargo service, no IATA code and no freight infrastructure. The sparsely populated Washuk area is supplied overland from Quetta and ultimately through Karachi (KHI). For air freight the field is irrelevant.
