Yemenia returned to Riyan in early 2026 after the Mukalla airfield had stood largely idle for years, its first scheduled service arriving from Aden — a notable step for supplying the Hadhramaut coast. The carrier now serves Mukalla partly as a stopover on the Aden–Dubai route, reconnecting the region to the Gulf. The reopening matters above all for humanitarian and supply logistics; no dedicated freight handling yet exists, and air cargo travels as belly loads. Heavy and bulky goods continue to move through the nearby seaports of Mukalla and Ash-Shihr on the Arabian Sea. Customs and control rest with the Hadhramaut authorities.
