AAY Airport (Al Ghaydah International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Al Ghaydah International Airport (AAY/OYGD) is best understood as a passenger lifeline for Yemen's Al Mahrah governorate rather than as an air freight gateway. Saudi forces handed the airport back to Yemeni authorities in July 2018, and Yemenia has since operated the main scheduled services, linking Al Ghaydah with Aden and Socotra. No dedicated cargo terminal, freighter handling or cold chain is documented at AAY; what little air cargo moves does so as belly capacity on those flights or on occasional relief and charter services. Goods that actually reach Al Mahrah arrive overland from Oman or through the coastal seaport of Nishtun, which supplies the province far more reliably than aviation does. Freight forwarders therefore route commercial shipments via Salalah (SLL) in Oman, or via Aden (ADE) and Seiyun (GXF), and truck them onward. Customs, dangerous goods and pharma handling capability at the airport itself is unconfirmed, and Yemeni operations can be suspended at short notice for security reasons, so current status should always be verified before booking.
