OKA Airport (Naha Airport / JASDF Naha Air Base) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

ANA Cargo runs its intra-Asian night operation not from Tokyo but from Naha (OKA/ROAH) on Okinawa, roughly 1,550 km south of the capital. Freighters, mainly Boeing 767s, arrive between 01:00 and 04:00 from points in Japan, China and Southeast Asia, are sorted on the ground, and depart again between 04:00 and 06:00. The airport handled 181,206 tonnes of cargo in 2024, against 434,779 tonnes of freight and mail in 2019, so volumes are still in recovery rather than at their peak. Traffic accelerated after the Okinawa International Logistics Hub opened in 2009: tonnage climbed from 935 tonnes in 2008 to more than 174,000 tonnes by 2015. Within ANA's structure Narita carries North American and European long-haul while Okinawa concentrates on Asian city pairs, and the carrier has since rebalanced the two to cut duplicated capacity. Shippers of electronics, spare parts and temperature-controlled goods gain the most, because the value on offer here is overnight transit time rather than terminal scale. Customs is handled by Japan Customs; onward distribution is entirely by road, as Okinawa has no freight rail and no land link to the main islands. For intercontinental capacity or departures outside the night window, Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Kansai (KIX) are the practical alternatives.
