SATA Air Açores, Azores Airlines and TAP anchor the schedule at Lajes Airport (IATA: TER, ICAO: LPLA) on Terceira, joined by Ryanair, TUI and Air Europa. This is a dual-use field at Praia da Vitória, sharing its runway with Portuguese Air Base No. 4 and hosting the US Air Force's 65th Air Base Group. It handled about 5,000 tonnes of cargo in 2023 and passed one million passengers for the first time in 2024. Freight moves chiefly as belly cargo on those scheduled flights, carrying time-critical goods, spares and fresh produce to the island. Combined sea-air shipments can use the nearby port of Praia da Vitória. Ponta Delgada (PDL) on São Miguel remains the Azores' largest airport and its principal cargo gateway.
