OPO Airport (Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

TAP Air Portugal is turning Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO/LPPR) in Porto into a genuine second hub, with 135 weekly direct flights planned for winter 2026, including 13 intercontinental routes that bring additional belly-cargo capacity. The airport itself is primarily passenger-driven: it set a new record of 16.9 million passengers in 2025 (+6.3%), while independently verifiable cargo tonnage figures for OPO specifically are not publicly available. Ryanair accounts for around 37% of routes, and low-cost, narrow-body-heavy traffic structurally limits belly cargo space compared with a network carrier hub. One niche cargo strength is seafood: Portugal is a significant European seafood exporter, and OPO has facilities for palletised freight, courier shipments and temperature-controlled cargo. The airport is operated by ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, part of the Vinci Group, and customs clearance follows standard EU external-border procedures. At national level, Lisbon handled roughly 76.3% of Portugal's air cargo tonnage in January 2026, underlining that Lisbon (LIS), about 300 kilometres south, remains the country's main air freight gateway.
