About 137,800 passengers passed through Klagenfurt Airport (IATA: KLU, ICAO: LOWK) in 2024, down roughly 10 percent year on year, at southern Austria's international gateway on Lake Wörthersee in Carinthia. Ryanair and Wizz Air anchor the scheduled network alongside seasonal charters. An in-house logistics team handles general cargo, dangerous goods under IATA DGR and warehousing, but the airport has no dedicated freight terminal or scheduled freighters, so volumes stay modest. Its position in the Austria/Italy/Slovenia three-country corner makes KLU useful for cross-border and charter consignments, with customs clearance available on site. Larger, schedule-critical air freight routes via Graz (GRZ, about 130 km), Vienna (VIE) or nearby Ljubljana (LJU, about 80 km). For regional SMEs, Klagenfurt suits smaller ad-hoc shipments rather than hub-scale cargo.
