Zeltweg's Hinterstoisser Air Base (ICAO LOXZ) in the Styrian Murtal valley is the Austrian Armed Forces' largest military airfield and the sole home of its Eurofighter Typhoon fleet. It is closed to civil traffic, handles no commercial air cargo and carries no IATA code. Runway resurfacing in 2026 has pushed the interceptors to other fields for periods — Klagenfurt hosted them in September 2026 — and the Airpower air show traditionally staged here has moved from 2026 to 2027 because of the works and budget consolidation. The base is also earmarked as the initial station for Austria's new Leonardo M-346FA aircraft, and it sits next to the Red Bull Ring, whose Grand Prix logistics move entirely by road. For air freight in the region, Graz (GRZ) roughly 65 km to the south-east is the nearest airport with handling and customs; larger volumes, dangerous goods and intercontinental shipments go through Vienna (VIE), with Klagenfurt (KLU) as a smaller southern option.
