JIM Airport (Jimma Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

JIM/HAJM is the code pair behind Jimma Aba Segud Airport, the air access point for the coffee-growing highlands of south-western Ethiopia. Its asphalt runway of roughly 3,300 metres was rebuilt in 2015 and can take larger aircraft, yet scheduled service is essentially limited to Ethiopian Airlines flights to Addis Ababa. No dedicated cargo terminal, freighter service or on-site customs office is confirmed for Jimma, so the modest volume of air freight travels as belly cargo aboard passenger aircraft. Export coffee and other agricultural goods are therefore trucked the roughly 350 road kilometres to Addis Ababa and handled at Bole International (ADD), where Ethiopian Cargo runs its own freight terminal and freighter fleet. Import and export customs formalities are likewise completed in Addis Ababa rather than in Jimma. There is no equivalent second air freight option in the south-west; for heavy or price-sensitive consignments, the sea route via the port of Djibouti with onward trucking remains the usual alternative.
