More than 200,000 passengers a year pass through Horta Airport (IATA: HOR, ICAO: LPHR) on Faial, the Azorean island whose harbour is the self-declared world capital of blue-water sailing. SATA Air Açores runs inter-island services, while Azores Airlines and TAP link Horta to Lisbon. No freighters operate here: air cargo moves as belly load handled by SATA, and the islands' heavier goods arrive by sea through the port of Horta. As part of Portugal the Azores sit inside the EU customs territory, so mainland shipments are not customs entries, though VAT rates differ from the mainland. For larger air consignments, forwarders consolidate through Ponta Delgada (PDL), the archipelago's main gateway, or Lajes/Terceira (TER).
