CEG Airport (Hawarden Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Airbus has flown wings out of Hawarden Airport (IATA: CEG, ICAO: EGNR) for more than three decades, and that traffic still defines the field today. The adjoining Broughton plant builds the wings for virtually every Airbus airliner, which leave on the outsize freighters of the Beluga family bound for Toulouse, Hamburg Finkenwerder and Bremen, flown by the A300-600ST Beluga and the larger A330-743L Beluga XL, the latter able to swallow a pair of A350 wings in one load. The airport lies in Flintshire, Wales, about 6 kilometres west-south-west of Chester and operates as a private works aerodrome, also hosting business aviation, maintenance and flight training, with no scheduled passenger service. Forwarders cannot book this traffic: it is intra-group outsize movement on specialised equipment rather than an open cargo offer, even though Airbus has since opened its Beluga transport business to external oversize loads. Commercial air freight for north Wales and Cheshire goes through Manchester (MAN) roughly 70 road kilometres east or Liverpool John Lennon (LPL) some 40 kilometres north-east, with East Midlands (EMA) for overnight express. The A55 and M56 toward Manchester and the M6 north-south corridor provide the road links, with the Port of Liverpool as the sea-side complement.
