GLO Airport (Gloucestershire Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Busy does not mean freight-capable: Gloucestershire Airport (GLO, ICAO EGBJ) at Staverton, between Gloucester and Cheltenham, handles tens of thousands of movements a year and still offers no cargo facilities. Its traffic comes from flight schools, private owners and business aviation across three runways, the longest 1,419 metres, alongside based police and air-ambulance helicopters and several maintenance and charter operators; there are no scheduled passenger services. Air freight from Gloucestershire is therefore trucked to Bristol (BRS, roughly 70 km) or Birmingham (BHX), with Cardiff (CWL) an option for consignments moving west into Wales. The A40 and the nearby M5 make that road feeder leg straightforward for forwarders. In March 2026 the sale of the airport by its owners, Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucester City Council, to Horizon Aero Group collapsed when the bidder could not secure funding; Savills has been re-appointed to run a fresh sales process, the site having previously been marketed at a £25 million guide price. Until any new owner changes the business model, GLO remains a general aviation field rather than a cargo address.
