EKT Airport (Eskilstuna Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Eskilstuna's real logistics value lies on the ground rather than in the air: the airport (IATA: EKT, ICAO: ESSU) in Södermanland, roughly 100 km west of Stockholm, is owned by the municipality and run within Eskilstuna Logistik together with the adjacent logistics park and its intermodal rail terminal. Its 1,886-metre runway could in principle take full-size freighters, but there is no commercial cargo handling, no ground handling agent and no air-cargo customs post on site. Traffic amounts to roughly 1,000 movements a year from air taxi, business, transport and ambulance flying, with no scheduled passenger services. The municipality has for several years examined closing the field to free land for further logistics development, while the Swedish Armed Forces resumed using it in 2025 and want it kept open, leaving the outcome unresolved. Air freight for the Eskilstuna industrial region therefore routes through Stockholm Västerås (VST) about 40 km north or Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) some 100 km east, Sweden's principal international air-cargo gateway. For forwarders, EKT matters as an address in the logistics park rather than as an air-freight station.
