Mail, medical supplies and the occasional small parcel are what actually move through Eday Airport (IATA: EOI, ICAO: EGED), an Orkney island airfield barely 10 metres above the sea serving around 130 residents. Loganair operates the link from Kirkwall for Orkney Islands Council under a Public Service Obligation contract running from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2029, using two Britten-Norman BN-2 Islanders based at Kirkwall that together carry some 20,000 passengers a year across the inter-isles network. An eight-seat Islander offers no commercial cargo hold, so there is no scheduled air freight. Bulk goods, building materials and groceries arrive by Orkney Ferries instead. Forwarders consolidate consignments at Kirkwall (KOI) and move them onward via Aberdeen (ABZ) or Inverness (INV) to the Scottish mainland. Customs formalities for imports are handled at those mainland gateways, not on the island.
