TFU Airport (Chengdu Tianfu International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Around 1.4 million tonnes — that is the cargo capacity Chengdu Tianfu is built to handle in 2025, supported by roughly ten international freighter routes. Opened only in 2021, the airport absorbed most of Chengdu's international and cargo traffic from older Shuangliu in March 2023, becoming the primary field of the city's two-airport system. A new fully automated cargo terminal, equipped by Lödige Systems with elevating transfer vehicles and a five-level automated ULD store of 227 positions, anchors the international freight operation. Maindeck freighters — including an A330 service straight to Frankfurt — are backed by belly capacity on long-haul routes to Europe and the Middle East, while Air China Cargo and Sichuan Airlines run their own cargo stations. Customs clearance runs through the on-site air cargo complex under Sichuan's free-trade-zone framework. As a terminus of China-Europe block trains, the region pairs air freight with the overland rail corridor to Europe — a multimodal edge for forwarders. Tianfu sits about 50 kilometres from central Chengdu, linked by expressway and high-speed rail. The dual-airport setup with Shuangliu remains one of the few such systems in western China.
