ESH Airport (Brighton City Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

ESH and EGKA are the codes of Brighton City Airport at Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex, recognised as the oldest airport in the United Kingdom and the oldest purpose-built commercial airport still operating anywhere in the world, in use since 1910. Its 1936 Art Deco terminal is a listed building, and the field has been run by operator Cyrrus under a long lease since 2019. Activity is limited to general aviation, flight training and business aviation: there are no scheduled passenger or cargo services and no freight terminal. Air freight for Brighton and the south coast is handled at London Gatwick (LGW), about 50 km to the north-east and the customs point for the area's imports and exports, or at London Heathrow (LHR). Road access runs via the A27 and the A23 towards the M23. The immediate surroundings matter more for goods than the runway does: adjoining Shoreham Port handles coastal and bulk traffic, and the Newhaven–Dieppe ferry offers road freight an alternative to the Channel Tunnel routes.
