A military runway and Mexico's busiest cargo airport share the same Santa Lucía ground, and the difference matters for shippers. Base N°1 (General Alfredo Lezama Álvarez) at Zumpango is an installation of the Mexican Air Force, closed to commercial freight. The adjacent Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA, IATA NLU) has led Mexico in air cargo tonnage since 2023: it handled roughly 410,000 tonnes in 2025 and targets up to 480,000 tonnes in 2026, with its expanded freight terminal rated for 705,000 tonnes a year. Forwarders should direct all cargo to AIFA's civilian terminals and customs facilities rather than to the air base. In short, the military apron carries no commercial role for logistics planning.
