TIJ Airport (General Abelardo L. Rodriguez International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Nearshoring has turned Tijuana's General Abelardo L. Rodríguez airport into one of Mexico's fastest-growing cargo stations, right on the border with San Diego. The surrounding city anchors one of Latin America's largest maquiladora clusters, and medical devices, aerospace parts and electronics from its industrial parks feed steadily rising freight volumes - TIJ already led Mexican airports in cargo growth before the pandemic. Operated by the OMA group, the airport ties air cargo tightly to cross-border trucking, with shipments feeding the US networks of FedEx, UPS and DHL just over the line in California. Its signature feature is the Cross Border Xpress (CBX), a pedestrian bridge straight into a US terminal in San Diego - passenger-only so far, but a clear symbol of the airport's binational design. Customs runs through Aduana under IMMEX export-processing rules, with bonded warehouses for manufacturers. Surface logistics are dominated by the cross-border trucking corridor rather than rail. TIJ is therefore less a conventional passenger gateway than an industrial export channel on the Pacific border.
