OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, 65% owned by Embraer and 35% by the Portuguese state, runs the airfield at Alverca (LPAR) near Vila Franca de Xira, roughly 15 km north-east of Lisbon Airport. The site is Portugal's oldest airport — it served the capital before Lisbon opened in 1940 — and today combines Portuguese Air Force use with civil maintenance, repair and overhaul work for customers from some 70 countries on its single runway 04/22.
