The strip exists to support a UN observer mission (MINURSO) in the north-east of Western Sahara, flown by mission logistics aircraft and the occasional relief flight. Commercial operation, scheduled service and cargo handling are not part of its remit, so there is effectively no freight relevance. The nearest commercial airport is Laayoune (EUN), around 400 km to the west.
