ENU Airport (Akanu Ibiam International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Reopened on 28 April 2025 after emergency runway repairs, Akanu Ibiam International Airport (IATA: ENU, ICAO: DNEN) is the gateway to Enugu, the commercial and academic centre of south-east Nigeria's Igbo country, sitting in the Emene district some 20 minutes from downtown. The honest cargo picture: no scheduled freighter operation exists, the dedicated cargo terminal is still being built, and airfreight moves in the belly holds of mainly domestic passenger flights. Momentum is real, though — the airport received aerodrome certification in 2026 and a concession to a private operator is intended to fund expansion and proper cargo handling, with state plans targeting direct links for agricultural produce, processed foods and pharmaceuticals, Guangzhou among the named destinations. Until that materialises, shippers needing genuine capacity route through Murtala Muhammed in Lagos (LOS), roughly 500 km west, or Port Harcourt (PHC) to the south. Customs and export formalities run through the Nigeria Customs Service, and exporters of perishables should plan around the cold-chain facilities the airport does not yet have.
