CJS Airport (Abraham González International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Roughly 38,570 tonnes of air cargo handled in 2024 make Abraham González International Airport (CJS/MMCS) in Ciudad Juárez one of Mexico's more freight-active airports rather than a purely passenger field. Sitting directly on the border with Texas, it serves the maquiladora belt, moving electronics, automotive components and just-in-time production supplies. Passenger traffic reached 2,132,786 in 2025, ranking 14th nationally; the airport is operated by the OMA group (Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte). Cargo infrastructure includes a dedicated air freight apron, six inspection platforms, an on-site customs office, X-ray screening and a seizure area, so import and export clearance can be completed locally. El Paso International (ELP) lies only about 20 km away on the US side, reached by truck via the Bridge of the Americas and Zaragoza crossings, which is why a large share of regional shipments actually travels as cross-border road freight. Within Mexico, Chihuahua (CUU) some 360 km south is the nearest alternative. Because much of the lift is belly capacity tied to the passenger schedule, dangerous goods and temperature-controlled consignments should be confirmed with the handling agent in advance.
