A transport quotation is a carrier's or freight forwarder's formal offer to move a specific shipment under defined conditions. It specifies the freight rate, transit time, mode of transport, and any additional services such as insurance, packing, or customs clearance. Shippers typically request quotations from several providers, compare price against service scope, and accept the most suitable offer; acceptance converts the quotation into a binding freight contract. A firm transport quotation should be distinguished from an indicative rate, which serves only as a rough guide and carries no contractual obligation.
