An automated import notification is the electronic declaration of imported goods that freight forwarders and importers transmit to customs directly from their software, without paper. In Switzerland this import goods declaration runs through the BAZG (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security) system Passar: since the pilot operation of Passar 2.0 (import, stages 1 and 2 live since Q2 2026), import customs declarations are being migrated step by step from the legacy system e-dec to Passar; the last possible declaration in e-dec import is 30 September 2027, after which only Passar is permitted. Standardised data records (XML/EDI, the Declar web application, or a direct system interface) are validated automatically before transmission, so incomplete or erroneous filings are caught and corrected early. For regular importers, the automated import notification can be fully integrated into the ERP or warehouse management system and forms part of the DaziT digitalisation strategy. It should be distinguished from the transport declaration (activation and presentation in transit) and from a one-off manual customs declaration; the actual assessment — the calculation of import duties — is then carried out by the BAZG. Status: July 2026.
