The United States (US) is the world's largest consumer market and a global import hub linking transpacific, transatlantic and USMCA trade flows. Customs is handled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP); imports are filed electronically via the ACE single-window system (Entry Summary CBP Form 7501, classified under the HTSUS) and exports via AES. There is no federal VAT; instead, states levy sales tax of 0 to around 10 percent combined, and USMCA preferences apply only to Canada and Mexico. The main gateways are the seaports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, New York/New Jersey, Savannah and Houston, and the cargo airports Memphis (MEM, FedEx superhub), Anchorage (ANC), Louisville (SDF, UPS Worldport) and Los Angeles (LAX). Inland, the I-95, I-10, I-5 and I-35 (USMCA corridor) interstates and the Union Pacific, BNSF, CSX and Norfolk Southern rail networks with the Chicago hub carry the main volumes; the Mississippi adds inland waterway capacity. Typical cargo includes machinery, electronics, vehicles, pharmaceuticals, mineral oil and LNG; the main trading partners are China, Mexico, Canada, Germany and Japan.
