About This Seaport
Some 2.7 million TEU of annual capacity, a 1,725 m quay, 16 ship-to-shore cranes and draughts of up to 16.5 m define Wilhelmshaven (DE WVN), Germany's only deep-water port. Its JadeWeserPort container terminal on the Inner Jade can take the largest boxships tide-independently, and in September 2025 it passed one million TEU handled in a year for the first time. The terminal is operated by Eurogate/Contship. Beyond containers, Wilhelmshaven is Germany's foremost crude-oil import port, taking in more than 20 million tonnes a year that feed inland refineries through the NWO pipeline. The country's first LNG import terminal opened here at the end of 2022, reinforcing the site's energy role. Hinterland links run via the A29 motorway and rail corridors towards Bremen and the Ruhr, and as a German EU port it offers full customs and deep-sea clearance. Cargoes span containers, crude oil, petroleum products, LNG and project breakbulk. Shippers wanting denser liner coverage or more feeder choice will find it at nearby Bremerhaven and Hamburg.
