About This Seaport
Udang is an offshore crude-oil loading point in the Natuna Sea, about 1,000 km north of Jakarta, served by a single-point mooring rather than conventional quays. Processed crude was piped through dual insulated lines to the «Udang Natuna», a 93,000-deadweight-tonne storage tanker permanently moored off the production platform, with export tankers breast-mooring alongside to lift cargo. Discovered in 1974 and on stream from 1979, the field reached around 36,000 barrels per day from two platforms in the early 1980s before operations were reportedly suspended. The site handles no containers, breakbulk, or customs clearance – it is a dedicated petroleum roadstead, not a commercial port. Forwarders moving general cargo in the wider region rely on commercial ports such as Pontianak or Batam.
