About This Seaport
Crude oil is the only cargo that matters at Kasim Terminal, a marine loading point in the oil province of the Bird's Head peninsula in Indonesia's Southwest Papua. Located at Malabam in Seget District, about 90 km south of Sorong city, the terminal stores crude from the nearby Walio and Salawati fields and loads it as the 'Walio Mix' blend onto tankers for domestic and export markets. A pipeline links the jetty to Pertamina's adjacent Kasim refinery (RU VII, designed for about 10,000 barrels per day, operating since 1997), which now runs below capacity as field output declines and supplies less than 15 % of the fuel needed across Papua and Maluku. The terminal handles no containers, breakbulk or general merchandise — its freight role is confined to oil-and-gas liquid bulk. Forwarders with general cargo for the region should use the Port of Sorong instead. For larger container volumes, Makassar or Surabaya's Tanjung Perak are the nearest capable ports.
