About This Seaport
No agri-export node in the world shipped more than the Greater Rosario cluster on the Paraná in 2025, when its terminals moved 75.7 million tonnes of grain, meal and oil. Rosario itself turns over around 20 million tonnes a year, chiefly soybeans, soymeal, soy oil, maize and wheat, and the cluster handles roughly 70 to 80 percent of Argentina's farm exports depending on the year. Some 29 terminals line the river here, many with silo storage and loading gear for Panamax vessels, and traders such as Cargill, Bunge and Louis Dreyfus run their own facilities at sites like Punta Alvear. Cargo reaches the quays by rail, road and the Paraguay-Paraná inland waterway, where barge convoys bring produce down from the interior. Because river depth is limited, many ocean vessels load only partially at Rosario and top off further downstream. Containers play little part here; Buenos Aires serves that traffic, while Bahía Blanca offers a deeper-water grain alternative for fully laden bulkers.
