About This Seaport
Twenty-one storage tanks holding around 320,600 cubic metres of fuel and six jetties able to take vessels of 3,500 to 100,000 dwt define Pulau Sambu (IDPSS) as a petroleum products terminal rather than a cargo port. Operated by Pertamina, it sits in the Strait of Malacca between Batam and Singapore, on one of the world's busiest tanker routes. As Indonesia's first-ever fuel terminal, it carries historic status and now anchors part of Pertamina's distribution network. No containers, breakbulk or reefer cargo are handled here; the facility is dedicated to liquid energy and a growing bunkering business. Holding Bonded Logistics Centre status and partnered with Freepoint Commodities, Sambu is being developed into a regional trading and bunker hub, having already received its first international bunker cargo. Forwarders with containerised or general cargo use nearby Batam (Batu Ampar) or Singapore instead.
