About This Seaport
Under the UN/LOCODE ID PAP, Parepare is a natural harbour on the Makassar Strait in South Sulawesi, about 155 km north of Makassar and run by state operator Pelindo. It is organised in three parts: Nusantara for passengers, Cappa Ujung for cargo and containers, and Lontangnge. Through the Pelni line and private operators it links the city with Kalimantan, Surabaya and ports in eastern Indonesia, handling mainly domestic island-to-island traffic, general cargo, modest container volumes and regional consumer goods. The deep anchorage of over 20 m allows larger ships to anchor, but Parepare is geared to national trade and regional supply rather than international shipping. For deep-sea container calls in Sulawesi, the larger port of Makassar (Makassar New Port) further south is the main option. Roads connect Parepare to the South Sulawesi hinterland, with rail access developing through the Trans-Sulawesi railway.
