About This Seaport
Up to 25 ferries a day call at Chora during the summer peak, with sailings running roughly 238 times a week to Piraeus, Rafina, Lavrio, Santorini, Mykonos, Paros and Crete. This volume makes Naxos one of the busiest Cycladic ports, yet the traffic is overwhelmingly passenger and accompanied-vehicle (RoRo) rather than containerised or general cargo. A cargo-pier depth of only about 1.8 m rules out conventional freighters, so goods reach the island rolling on the ferry network operated by Blue Star Ferries, SeaJets, Fast Ferries and Small Cyclades Lines. Outbound flows are limited to island products such as marble, emery and agricultural goods. Hinterland distribution depends entirely on the island road network, with no rail or inland-waterway link. For container or international shipments, Piraeus (GR PIR) is the nearest deep-sea gateway, with Heraklion (GR HER) on Crete as a multipurpose alternative.
