About This Seaport
Once an important medieval trading port, Hormuz Island today lives mainly from tourism and its striking red ochre soil, historically exported for dyes, cosmetics and ceramics. Sitting in the Strait of Hormuz about eight kilometres off the Iranian coast, it offers only modest jetties and passenger ferries to Bandar Abbas, with no commercial container or breakbulk handling. Regular freight and customs clearance for southern Iran run through nearby Bandar Abbas (Shahid Rajaee). Beyond limited ochre shipments, the island has no confirmed international cargo role.
