About This Seaport

Anchoring Finland's forest-industry exports, Hamina forms half of HaminaKotka, the country's largest export, container and transit port on the Gulf of Finland, with combined annual throughput of around 15 million tonnes. Forest products — sawn timber, pulp and paper — account for roughly half of export volumes, and the port handles a large share of Finland's sawn-timber exports. Hamina itself is a multipurpose site with terminals for containers, liquid and dry bulk, gas, and Ro-Ro and project cargo, including LPG and LNG handling. The group's main container terminal, Mussalo with about 1 million TEU of capacity, sits on the Kotka side, while Hamina carries box capacity of its own. The port was historically a key transit gateway to Russia, but that traffic has largely fallen away since the 2022 sanctions and been replaced by other flows. Road, rail and inland links serve the industrial hinterland of southern Finland. Shippers focused purely on containers will find Helsinki and the Kotka side (Mussalo) the natural alternatives.
