About This Seaport

Timber, pulp and paper set the cargo profile of Kaskinen (FI KAS), Finland's westernmost port on the Gulf of Bothnia, about 100 km north of Pori. It ranks among the country's most important forest-industry ports and specialises in chemical and bulk cargo. The main shipments are sawn timber and pulp, including BCTMP from the Metsä Board mill in Kaskinen, supplemented by wood chips, animal and wood pellets and smaller volumes of chemicals; annual throughput is around 1.3 million tonnes. Through the Wallenius SOL RoRo line, Kaskinen is plugged into liner traffic between Sweden, Finland and continental Europe, and the port has repeatedly handled heavy lifts such as wind-turbine components. Hinterland access is by road and a rail connection into the Finnish interior. Kaskinen offers little in the way of container liner services; forwarders moving boxes turn to Vaasa or Pori/Mäntyluoto.
