About This Seaport

Finland's single largest universal port, HaminaKotka was formed in 2011 by merging the harbours of Kotka and Hamina. Its Mussalo terminal is the country's leading container facility, with capacity in the order of 1.5 million TEU and round-the-clock operation. Forest products — sawn timber, wood pulp and paper — have traditionally made up about half of export tonnage, much of it shipped in containers. The port also runs a liquid-bulk terminal alongside ro-ro and lo-lo facilities for breakbulk and rolling cargo. Long rail sidings and warehouses tie the quays to Finland's forestry and chemical industries inland. Mussalo was long the principal transit port for Russia, a business that has shifted markedly since sanctions from 2022. For forwarders, HaminaKotka is the first port of call for Finnish container, forest and project cargo, with Helsinki-Vuosaari serving consumer goods and Rauma offering an alternative for forest products.
