About This Seaport
With roughly 2,200 m of quay and water depths of 9 to 14 m, Derince is the main multipurpose port on Turkey's Gulf of İzmit. Run by Safiport Derince since the 2015 privatisation of the former state-railway facility, it handles general cargo, containers, dry bulk such as coal, grain and minerals, and liquids, with container capacity in the several-hundred-thousand-TEU range. A direct rail connection and the motorway network link the port to the Kocaeli industrial belt and the Anatolian interior.
