About This Seaport
Serving the industrial and agricultural heartland of northern and central Anatolia, Samsun is the busiest port on Turkey's Black Sea coast. It handles dry bulk, liquid bulk, general cargo, project loads and containers; the container facility runs four berths with a capacity of around 350,000 TEU a year, within total throughput of about 10.8 million tonnes (2021). A distinctive asset is rail access — Samsun is the only Black Sea port in Turkey with a railway connection — backed by fourteen electric quay cranes and high-capacity bagged-cargo loading for fertiliser and grain. Beyond domestic trade, the port carries transit traffic toward Iran and Iraq via road and rail corridors. Customs clearance runs through Türkiye's customs administration. For larger container volumes, Constanța and the Istanbul-area hubs (Ambarlı) remain stronger options, while Trabzon complements coverage of the eastern Black Sea.
