About This Seaport

Operated under a build-operate-transfer concession by Koloğlu Holding, the Port of Çanakkale at Kepez sits about 5 km south-west of the city on the Asian shore of the Dardanelles and is the strait's commercial cargo hub. Its 214 m pier offers drafts up to 28 m and, with two RoRo ramps and a ferry ramp, handles ferries, passenger ships, general-cargo vessels, bulkers, tankers, chemical tankers and RoRo units; around 1,000 vessels call each year. Domestic breakbulk and the busy cross-strait and RoRo ferry links between Europe and Asia form the backbone of traffic, supported by roughly 28,700 m² of covered and 2,700 m² of open customs storage. Since 2005 it has also been the sole provider of bunkering and ship-waste reception along the strait, with two bunker barges (3,200 and 1,200 t) and about 8,970 m³ of bunker storage. Large-scale container line services are not based here; for containers, forwarders use Istanbul (Ambarli), Izmir or Gemlik. Inland access is by road and, since 2022, the Çanakkale 1915 Bridge.
